The chance to work with Roberto Martinez for a second time was an opportunity that Antolin Alcaraz could not turn down.
The Paraguay international has again teamed up with the Blues boss after agreeing terms on a two-year deal at Goodison Park.
Martinez brought the defender to English shores three years ago, signing him for Wigan from Belgian outfit Club Brugge.
Alcaraz insists he is a better player now than he was in 2010 and credits the Spaniard for shaping his skills to suit the fast-paced nature of the English game.
"I know him really well and he knows me very well also," Alcaraz explained to evertontv. "We had a very good relationship in the three years at Wigan and I want to continue that. Nothing is going to change, he is very professional.
"I have learned many things with him. He gave me a lot of support when I came here, when I was new in this competition. It is totally different and he gave me many lessons on how to adapt to this type of football.
"Thanks to him I adapted quickly to English football. There are many things I can say thank you to Roberto for, for my years here in England."
Alcaraz, 30, joins Everton on a free transfer after his contract at Wigan came to its conclusion.
Before joining the Latics, he previously played his football in the Argentine, Portuguese, Italian and Belgian top divisions.
But remaining in the Premier League was always Alcaraz's intention - despite interest from clubs elsewhere.
He added: "We talked to a lot of clubs but I was always interested in staying in the Premier League. I like this competition and at this moment in my career I thank Everton for giving me this opportunity to continue in the Premier League.
"It's different from the other football leagues in Europe. The competition is very hard and you don't feel a lot of difference between the big clubs and the small teams. It's very competitive and that is great. I really like the football in the Premier League."
Alcaraz also believes that Everton's geographical proximity to Wigan will help him acclimatise to life at his new club.
"It is great because I'm already settled down here," continued Alcaraz. "I really like it because I also have my kids here and they can continue going to the same school. My family already feel happy in this place.
"It's great - everything is coming together and it is a great opportunity for me and my family. They can continue with their friends and we don't need to change city."
