World Cup Draw For Duo

@Everton

England are still in contention to qualify for the knockout stages of the Under-20s World Cup despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Chile.

Everton duo Ross Barkley and John Stones both played the full 90 minutes for Peter Taylor’s side in Antalya on Wednesday afternoon.

England trailed at half-time after Castillo scored from the penalty spot on 31 minutes, but Barkley led the Young Lions’ charge in the second period.

The Blues Academy graduate provided the assist for Harry Kane’s equaliser on 64 minutes, bursting forward from midfield and teeing up the Spurs striker who found the net with a tidy finish from just inside the area.

After featuring in England’s 2-2 draw with Iraq on Sunday, John Lundstram and Chris Long this time had to settle for a watching brief from the bench alongside Luke Garbutt who has yet to taste any action in the tournament.

Dependant on the outcome of Egypt’s clash with Iraq later on Wednesday, England may now need to win their final group game against Egypt on Saturday to progress.

The top two nations from each of the six groups automatically qualify for the knockout stage, with the best four third-placed teams also advancing.
