Three Everton Ladies players have been named in the England squad for the UEFA Women’s European Championships in Sweden next month.

National team coach Hope Powell has called up Blues trio Rachel Brown-Finnis, Jill Scott and Toni Duggan to the squad of 23.

Brown-Finnis and Scott both have vast experience of appearing for their country, while the five-cap Duggan wins a call-up after an impressive start to the WSL campaign.

The young striker has scored 12 goals for the Blues so far this season and her inclusion gives her a chance to add to her two international goals.

Midfielder Michelle Hinnigan and defender Alex Greenwood missed out on selection for the squad but have both been placed on standby.

England will be looking to go one step better than they did four years ago when they lost 6-2 to Germany in the final. Everton duo Brown-Finnis and Scott were both part of the team that day and will be hoping for more luck when the tournament kicks off on 10 July.

Powell’s team will play all their group games in Linkoping and will start the tournament on 12 July against Spain. They will then face Russia three days later before the group comes to a conclusion on 18 July against France.

England will warm up for the tournament with a match against world champions Japan in Burton on 26 June before travelling to Sweden to face the host nation in Uddevalla on 4 July.
