Roberto Martinez has underlined Leighton Baines’ importance in his plans for the future.
The new Blues boss has confirmed he is keen to reward the England international for a sustained period of excellent form over the last three seasons.
Baines, who is currently contracted to Everton until 2015, was named in the Premier League team of the year for 2012/13 and also won the Club's player of the year and players' player awards last month.
Martinez told evertontv: "It is very important and it’s [a case of] rewarding players who have been phenomenal for the football club, and I think Leighton is in that category.
"The Chairman is very keen to express that and obviously I’m desperately looking forward to meeting the players."
Baines played every minute of football in the Premier League last season - a feat he has now accomplished twice. He created more chances than any other player in the league last term - the second highest in Europe's big five leagues.
Martinez continued: "For Leighton, as the top performer he has been in the last few years, it is important that we reward his work and make sure that he can look forward to kicking-on and go into the next chapter of his career with Everton.
"That’s important for the Club as a whole, not just the dressing room."
