Everton Football Club scooped an award at the fourth annual Stadium Business Awards earlier this month.
The Blues’ Stadium Operations team picked up the Sustainability Award - one of the most prestigious up for grabs in the stadia facilities sector.
Everton saw off competition from Wolfsburg, the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Manchester United's Old Trafford, the Aviva Stadium in Dublin and Marlins Park in Miami to win the award. Wembley Stadium were the 2012 winners.
The judging panel's published comments revealed: “It was a really tough category this year with very strong entries but Evertonʼs submission impressed on so many levels – technical detail, costings, lifetime carbon reduction, budget ROIs, but also in the context that its sustainability goals were achieved in one of the oldest operating stadiums in the world.”
The ceremony, which was held at Lancashire County Cricket Club, is a global event contested by the finest stadiums from across the world. As well as Goodison, last night's winners included the Ukraine's Donbass Arena, New Orleans' Superdome, Houston's Toyota Centre and Sydney Cricket Ground.
Denise Barrett-Baxendale, the Club's Chief Operating Officer, said: "We're delighted to have received this award. To be recognised at such a prestigious event in such a hotly contested category is particularly pleasing. The award is fitting recognition for the incredible dedication and hard work put in by a fantastic group of individuals within our Stadium Operations team.
"Goodison is an iconic venue but its age makes it a challenge operationally to continually deliver a service comparable with the finest stadiums in this country and, indeed, the world. This award recognises that ongoing work and is an accolade to be applauded."
Everton were also nominated in the Customer Experience category for the Club's friendly stewarding, but narrowly missed out to the stadium of the Orlando Magic in Florida.
Work undertaken at Goodison Park also received recognition in the Product Innovation category, where the Club’s Production partner ADI was shortlisted for the installation of a Live Venue solution. The award went to Extricom's Wi-Fi solution for the All-Star Weekend at Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas.
