The back page of Monday’s Liverpool Echo features a report claiming David Weir is set to depart Everton and cut his teeth as a manager by taking up the top job at Sheffield United.

The 43-year-old Scot has been working alongside Alan Stubbs in the Blues’ Under-21s setup but is now ready to take up the challenge of steering the Blades back into the Championship, according to the paper.

The Echo also report on Phil Neville’s weekend announcement that he is to end a 19-year playing career and move into coaching. The 36-year-old has been linked with a return to Manchester United to take up a position within David Moyes’ new-look backroom team.
