What The Papers Say - 1 June

The views on this page are taken from the local and national media and do not necessarily reflect the views of Everton.

The back page of Saturday’s Liverpool Echo leads with quotes from Johnny Heitinga who says that he will wait until a new Everton manager is appointed before deciding whether his future lies at Goodison Park or elsewhere.

Also in the Echo is a double page feature on Roberto Martinez and his 18-year career in English football to date.

The Sun reports that should Spaniard Martinez not get the managerial position at Everton, he will be approached by Manchester City to work as part of their new coaching setup.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror and Daily Telegraph are suggesting that former Blues skipper Phil Neville is being lined up by Brighton to take over as manager from Gus Poyet.

Most of the national newspapers are predicting that Phil Jagielka will again start for England in tomorrow’s friendly against Brazil, while Leighton Baines is expected to be named on the bench.
