What The Papers Say - 23 May

by Matthew Gamble @efc_mattgamble

The stories on this page are taken from the local and national media and do not necessarily reflect the views of Everton.

The identity of Everton's next manager is the main topic in Thursday's papers.

Porto boss Vitor Pereira and Wigan chief Roberto Martinez are the two names dominating the day's Everton reports.

The Daily Express says Martinez will inform his chairman Dave Whelan of his intentions today amid reported interest from Everton and Stoke.

The Echo also carries this story, saying 'external candidates' will be interviewed next week.

There is also much talk of Pereira taking the Goodison Park reins.

The Mirror says Bill Kenwright is a 'known admirer' of the Portuguese title winner.

But the Liverpool Post say 'club insiders' have rejected claims of a pre-contract between the Blues and Pereira - as reported in his homeland.

The Daily Star reports on another 'candidate' for the Everton manager job - Malky Mackay.

The current Cardiff boss has apparently 'distanced himself' from the role in order to focus on the newly-promoted Welsh outfit.
