There was Wembley disappointment for Jake Bidwell on Sunday as Brentford slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Yeovil Town in the League One play-off final.

The on loan Everton youngster played the full 90 minutes at the national stadium as the Bees were denied a place in the Championship by the most slender of margins for the second time in three weeks.

After being pipped to a top-two finish by Doncaster Rovers on the final day of the regular league season, Bidwell was again on the losing side in this crunch promotion-decider.

Yeovil led 2-0 at half-time through goals from Paddy Madden and Dan Burn. Harlee Dean pulled one back for Brentford at the start of the second half but the Glovers held on to claim a place in English football’s second tier.

Bidwell, 20, returns to Everton having played a total of 50 appearances for Brentford during 2012/13.
