England Under-20 boss Peter Taylor has revealed he hopes to call on Everton duo Ross Barkley and John Lundstram for this summer's World Cup in Turkey.
Taylor is set to announce his squad on Friday but speaking this afternoon included the two midfielders in a list of names likely to make his final cut.
The Young Lions will be pitted against Iraq, Chile and Egypt in the group phase of the tournament, which kicks off on 23 June.
"There’s players on there like Ross Barkley of Everton, who has played for the first team this year, [John] Lundstram, who is also at Everton but has been out on loan at Doncaster this year and [James] Ward-Prowse at Southampton.
“There are players there who have a lot of experience playing with Premier League teams, so it’s looking alright at the minute. I am convinced they will have a great experience from this tournament."
Barkley has made six Everton first-team appearances since returning from loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United earlier this term, most recently coming off the bench in the 1-0 win over Fulham.
Lundstram played 14 times during a two-month stint at Doncaster, helping the Yorkshire outfit to the League One crown.
