Baines Backs Founding Fathers Quest

by Daniel Alston @efc_danalston

Leighton Baines has backed the FA's campaign to trace the founding fathers of football.

The Football Association is asking the public to help find living descendants of the men who established the nation's favourite game.

Eight men from across the country established the world's most popular sport 150 years ago, gathering on 26 October 1863 in London to draft the 13 original laws of association football.

And England international Baines has echoed the gratitude for what transpired.

The Blues left-back said: “Football is a fantastic game and it is great that The FA are paying tribute to those men who started it all off. We might not know a lot about them but what they did was really important for the whole country, and even the world.

“Football brings people together and unites different communities. Wherever you visit in the world, whatever language or culture you are, football unites us all. The fact it translates so easily and is played by billions tells you just how right the founding fathers got it when they wrote the first laws of the game.”
