Sharpy Eyes Derby Day Glory

by Matthew Gamble @efc_mattgamble

Graeme Sharp has urged Everton to cap a 'fantastic' season with a rare Anfield win.

The Everton legend, no stranger to derby glory himself, believes the Blues have the necessary tools to record a first away win over Liverpool during David Moyes' reign.

"I think the season has been fantastic," declared Sharpy on evertontv.

"You look at David’s tenure and he has certainly moved the football club along. We were involved for many seasons in relegation scraps before he took over. He has mentioned that this is probably the best squad of players that he has had and I think that’s shown.

"Hopefully David can get his first victory over Liverpool at Anfield."

Liverpool are deprived of the services of Luis Suarez as he continues to serve his 10 game ban but Sharp has seen enough from their other attacking players to concern Everton's defence.

"The young boy Philippe Coutinho was impressive at the weekend and in the flashes we have seen of him, he looks a good footballer.

"Daniel Sturridge can score goals and is a threat but with Phil Jagielka back in the side alongside Sylvain Distin and the two full-backs, who can defend and get forward, I think we can cause them problems.

"If we get a win, that guarantees we finish higher than Liverpool.

"Whilst it’s great for bragging rights, the most important thing is the football club and getting European football for the supporters who have been great over the years. It would be nice to give them some reward.

"Yes, we are above Liverpool but European football has to be first and foremost."
