John Lundstram came out on top in Saturday’s League One promotion-decider involving Everton’s on-loan youngsters.
Doncaster Rovers claimed the title in dramatic circumstances, scoring a 94th-minute winner after Brentford had missed a penalty just seconds earlier.
Lundstram played an hour for the visitors in their 1-0 victory at Griffin Park, while Jake Bidwell completed the full match for the home side.
Doncaster needed a draw to secure second position ahead of Brentford who knew only a victory would see them seal automatic promotion to the Championship.
With the game goalless, Rovers midfielder Dean Furman sent Toumani Diagouraga tumbling to ground inside the area deep into stoppage time.
Amazingly, Marcello Trotta struck the crossbar with his spot-kick and James Coppinger scored on the counter-attack to earn Doncaster the League One title.
Midfielder Lundstram returns to Everton having made 14 appearances during his loan spell at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Bidwell, who has featured in 47 games over the course of his temporary stay with Brentford, will now aim to achieve promotion through the play-offs where the Bees face a two-legged semi-final against Swindon Town.
