David Moyes was happy with Everton’s 1-0 victory over Fulham - even though he admitted the margin of victory could have been more emphatic.

The Blues coasted to a routine home win over the Cottagers courtesy of Steven Pienaar’s seventh goal of the season after a quarter of an hour.

Several opportunities were missed in the second half to make the final scoreline more comprehensive.

But Moyes reflected on a pleasing afternoon’s work as his side made if four successive clean sheets at Goodison.

“We played differently today to give us every opportunity to win the game and thankfully we did,” said Moyes. “We scored a well-worked goal and another day maybe we could have converted a few more chances than we did do.

“It was a brilliantly worked goal. It was a good footballing goal from our point of view, although I’m sure Martin [Jol] will look at it and see what they [Fulham] could have done better. We made good passes, played through and obviously it was a good finish from Steven at the end.

“Steven played well today and gave us the creativity we needed. Kevin Mirallas had one or two moments where we thought he could score one or two of those special goals but we just couldn’t quite get that second goal.

“I thought we played a lot of good football and just didn’t finish off the good play that we had. I thought in the main we deserved to win the game. We didn’t play brilliantly well but we were in control.”

The 1-0 win, coupled with Tottenham’s draw at Wigan, puts Everton just three points adrift of the European places.

Having made ground on their rivals, Moyes still believes the Blues will need to take maximum points from their three remaining fixtures to have any chance of breaking into the top five.

“You have got to look at the other results,” Moyes added. “We probably have for a long time. Everybody kept reminding us how difficult Everton’s run-in was but we are making a good go of it.

“All we can do is win our games and do what we have to do, and we did that today."
