Arsenal (A) Sun 1 Mar 2015, 14:05, Barclays Premier League

Everton survived a second-half fightback to win their first ever Premier League meeting against Stoke City in September 2008.

The Potters had made a steady start to life back in the top division after a 23-year absence, beating Aston Villa 3-2 in their first home league game of the campaign.

But it was Everton who emerged as the first visiting side to take all three points from a Premier League fixture at the Britannia Stadium, thanks largely to Tim Cahill’s late headed winner.

Goals from Yakubu and Victor Anichebe either side of half-time had given David Moyes’ team a stranglehold on the contest.

However, Everton failed to get to grips with long-throw specialist Rory Delap who hurled in two missiles to help the Potters get back on level terms in the second half.

Firstly, Seyi Olofinjana volleyed past Tim Howard on 55 minutes before Phil Jagielka inadvertently turned another huge throw from the Stoke midfielder into his own net shortly after.

After seeing a blatant penalty appeal turned down for handball inside the box by Leon Cort, Everton finally got their rewards, with Cahill nodding in Mikel Arteta’s corner 11 minutes before the end.
