Victor Anichebe believes Nikica Jelavic finally got the luck his efforts deserved in the weekend win over Manchester City.
On an afternoon drenched in positives, Anichebe says that his teammate’s goal – the Croatian’s first Premier League strike since the victory against Tottenham at the start of December – gave him the most satisfaction.
Jelavic had endured the biggest drought of his Everton career having gone over three months without notching in the league.
But the deflection off Gael Clichy’s outstretched boot helped to give the former Rangers man that overdue break in front of goal.
“The one [goal] from Ossie was great but the one from Jela, for me that was even better,” Anichebe exclusively told evertontv. “We need Jela to get back scoring and he got a bit of luck, which he needed.
“I’m really happy for him because he has been working ever so hard. It was a good all-round team performance, so I’m happy.”
Anichebe also revealed how a presentation from David Moyes helped to restore some belief to the team following the previous week’s disappointment against Wigan Athletic.
“The manager showed us a great video of how we had been playing all season so we couldn’t be too down,” added the 24-year-old. “That helped us – we actually saw how well we had been playing.”
