Leon Osman was the toast of Goodison Park when West Bromwich Albion visited in August 2004.
Amid all the speculation of Wayne Rooney’s impending transfer to Manchester United, the midfielder struck twice to help the Blues inflict a 2-1 defeat on Gary Megson’s Baggies.
Osman’s afternoon came to life in just the second minute when he headed Everton in front from close range.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Scott Dobie got the visitors back level on seven minutes, glancing in Jonathan Greening’s corner.
Osman netted his and Everton’s second 20 minutes before the end when he was in the right place at the right time to convert Lee Carsley’s pinpoint free-kick.
