Felli Launches 25 Campaign

by Suzie Parker @Everton

Marouane Fellaini has today thrown his weight behind the campaign to celebrate 25 years of Everton in the Community.

The Blues’ No.25 visited Gwladys Street Primary School to help raise awareness of what will be the Club’s biggest ever charitable campaign.

To celebrate the landmark anniversary, the charity is inviting all Evertonians to be part of an ambitious fundraising drive to raise £1million and are asking 40,000 supporters, the capacity of Goodison Park, to contribute just £25 each.

During the launch event, the Belgian international spent time with pupils from the school, who were creating posters to advertise their own fundraising initiatives.

“I am happy to be able to help Everton’s official charity raise money to help people in Liverpool,” said Fellaini.

“The charity helps lots of people and Evertonians should be proud of what their Club does for its fans. I hope supporters get behind the campaign.”

The 25th anniversary campaign launched last week with the announcement of 12 Shades of Blue, a Club calendar which will see Fellaini and his teammates strip off their shirts in a bid to raise funds.

The Club’s official Twitter page revealed the news and shortly after ‘#12shadesofblue’ was trending in the UK on the popular social networking site.

Available from Thursday 22 November and priced at just £10, the calendar, which is supported by Paddy Power and Wild Thang Ltd, is the first of its kind to be created by a Premier League club.

Everton in the Community’s Chief Executive Officer, Denise Barrett Baxendale, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be celebrating our silver jubilee.

“This is a wonderful occasion and I would like to encourage all Evertonians to get behind the campaign and help us reach our fundraising goal.”

Everton in the Community was established on 1 February 1988 and over the last 25 years has grown to be one of the most well-respected and pioneering sporting charities in the UK.

It has been at the forefront of its game, challenging health and social issues, including anti-social behaviour, disability, mental health and education.

One of the highlights of the campaign will be a dedicated Everton home fixture to celebrate the landmark birthday in February 2013.

To help supporters get involved with the campaign, the charity has devised a list of 25 easy and fun ways to raise £25.
