Moyes Satisfied With Style

by Adam Clark @efc_adamclark

David Moyes has challenged Everton to make a statement of intent by putting on a show at Fulham on Saturday.

The Blues boss admits he has been impressed by the swaggering approach his side have adopted in recent months but three successive draws have seen the Blues drop out of the Premier League's top four.

Prior to that, Moyes’ men had recorded eye-catching victories over Manchester United, Aston Villa, Swansea and Southampton.

Now the boss wants his players to pile pressure back on those teams above by orchestrating another notable win at a notoriously tricky venue.

"If we're going to try to hang in with the boys near the top, then we have to keep winning games and playing well,” said Moyes, pointing to the Club’s European ambitions. “If we keep playing as we have been doing, we will win games.”

Following last Sunday's Merseyside derby, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard claimed Everton were a ‘long-ball’ team - an accusation he later retracted.

Asked about his side's style of play, Moyes said he had no complaints, insisting neutrals and Evertonians alike will have been impressed by what they have seen from the Blues.

"All we can do is do what we do," said Moyes. "I think any neutral who watches Everton will say they have been impressed. More importantly, ask any Evertonian what they think and I think they would all say Everton have played very well. And ask the manager how he thinks it's gone - I would tell you Everton have played really, really well.

"We've passed it well - I think we've made the most chances in the Premier League and we've scored a lot of goals. I think we've been good value and we're actually very good to watch."

Despite their good form, Everton have had to come from behind to avoid defeat in each of their last four games - a situation Moyes is keen to avoid in the capital.

The Scot has also felt his side have been unfortunate with refereeing decisions at times this season and with nine games down believes they may have accrued more than the 16 points they have.

He said: "Up to just now, we're happy. We've played well and we're in a pretty good league position.

"I'm pleased with the way the players are playing and I'm happy with the points we have but I think we could have picked up one or two more.

"If you ask me after Saturday, that'll be 10 games and we can consider our start. That's a proper length of time to do so.

"Fulham are doing very well. They're pushing at the top end and Martin [Jol] has steadied them and got them in a good position.

"They've made one or two changes, but we've always found the games against Fulham tough. Craven Cottage is a hard place to go.

"I think it's always important to score the first goal in the Premier League if you can. But what the players have showed when they've gone behind, they've showed that determination and resilience to try and work their way back into the game. It's something we don't want to happen but if that's the way it goes, that's what we have to do."
