Phil Meets The Fans

by John Howard @Everton

Phil Neville was the special guest last night as Everton’s tour of Supporters’ Clubs continued in Wallasey

The Blues captain was joined by former centre-back Derek Mountfield, Chief Executive Robert Elstone and Media and Publications manager Darren Griffiths, who also MC’d the event.

During a Q&A session the fans in attendance at the Primrose public house in Wallasey were able to ask Phil about the team’s early season form, his career at Everton and his plans for the future. Phil then signed autographs and posed for pictures with members of the branch.

Then it was Robert’s turn and he was asked about the task of securing investment, the latest on any stadium move and the chaos that can be transfer deadline day.

The evening ended when Derek took centre stage to recall stories from his playing days and offer his views on the current Everton team.

The travelling Blues contingent provided prizes for the raffle and three lucky members walked away with a signed shirt, a signed pennant and copies of Neville Southall’s and Pat van den Hauwe’s recent autobiographies.

“I really enjoyed the night,” said Phil. “It’s great to get out and about to meet the fans and the Wallasey lot are clearly a passionate group. They made us very welcome and I think they enjoyed it, too.”

More visits are planned throughout the season.
