Magic Numbers: Leeds

by Matthew Gamble @efc_mattgamble

Everton head to Elland Road looking to progress to the next round of the Capital One Cup.

Here we preview the game by way of key numbers, statistics and historical facts.

2 Victories for Everton in the last 43 visits to Elland Road, since 1951. Good news is that David Moyes is unbeaten in both his trips to Yorkshire, with the Blues victorious 1-0 in November 2002, thanks to Wayne Rooney's goal, and a 1-1 draw during the following season. Our other win in that time was 2-0 in the FA Cup in January 1985.

4 Goals scored by Leeds in both our previous meetings in this competition. In January 1978 the Blues lost 4-1 at Elland Road in the quarter-final, after taking an early lead via Dave Thomas. In December 1991 Howard Wilkinson's men triumphed by the same score at Goodison in the fourth round.

5 Goals scored in our record away win in this competition, achieved on two occasions. In September 1967 Everton won 5-0 at Bristol City and 23 years later were victorious by the same score at Wrexham.

9 Managerial contests between David Moyes and Neil Warnock, with the Scot leading 5-2 on wins in the head-to-head. The Leeds boss did emerge victorious on the last occasion they locked horns, when QPR won at Goodison in August 2011.

10 Number of successive times Everton were drawn at home in cup competitions before this visit to Leeds. On the last occasion the Blues were sent on their travels, we won 5-1 at Scunthorpe in the FA Cup in January 2011.

Wayne Rooney celebrates his goal against Leeds at Elland Road.

14Goals scored by Everton in their opening six matches of this season, their best tally in the first six games for 34 years.

30 Years since we played Swansea City and Leeds in successive fixtures. In May 1982, like this season, we scored three goals in a 3-1 win at Swansea, before defeating Leeds 1-0 at Goodison.

62 Attempts on goal by Everton in their three away matches so far this season, the 31 on Saturday being the highest during David Moyes' tenure as boss.

77 Away games for Everton in this competition, since its inception in 1960, with 34 games won and 24 lost.

96 Minutes playing time per goal for Victor Anichebe during 2012, the Toffees striker netting seven goals during that time.

99Starts made by Johnny Heitinga for Everton in all competitions.
