Everton and Nikica Jelavic are a ‘perfect’ fit, according to ex-Blues and Rangers boss Walter Smith.
Speaking to September’s Evertonian magazine – which goes on sale on Friday – Smith praises the Club’s capture of the Croat and also Steven Naismith.
Smith also reveals which former Rangers star implored him to bring Jelavic over from Rapid Vienna.
On the Croatian, Smith says: “When he came to Rangers, he showed real quality. He is a perfect finisher at times and if you give him opportunities then he will get you goals.
“I think Everton certainly did that when he first arrived. If Nikica was looking for a team in England to go to then Everton was the perfect choice.”
Joining Smith, the packed issue includes a look at the rise of Belgian football, something Blues fans can see first-hand with international pair Kevin Mirallas and Marouane Fellaini.
It’s the former who shares his thoughts on why so many of his countrymen have left Belgium for some of the world’s best leagues and clubs.
That’s not all.
Jacqui Oatley and Natasha Dowie analyse the post-Olympic impact on women’s football, Steve Round reflects on the Blues’ early season form and Francis Jeffers speaks candidly about his relationship with the Cub.
