David Moyes has admitted he is considering sending starlet Ross Barkley out on loan.

The Blues boss wants the 18-year-old midfielder to gain more first-team experience and believes a stint in the Championship could be beneficial to his long-term development.

Barkley turned out nine times for the Toffees last term having made his debut in the season's opening fixture against QPR.

He was also a regular for Alan Stubbs' reserve side, while this summer saw him score in the first-team's pre-season friendly victory over Dundee United.

Now Moyes is planning to find the teenager a shot at regular competitive action - though it is not yet known when any temporary move away from Goodison Park would happen.

"I'm thinking about getting him some Championship experience maybe in the coming month or two," said Moyes. "I can't do it right now until the squad is strong enough.

"I want him to go out and play. It seems right.

"I remember David Beckham coming to play when I was at Preston. You've got to remember Ross is still a boy."
