Blues Honour Most Successful Side

by Helen Mayo @Everton

Everton are to pay tribute to the Club’s most successful ever side with one of Goodison’s Executive Lounges renamed in their honour.

The achievements of Everton Giants Howard Kendall, Graeme Sharp, Kevin Ratcliffe, Neville Southall, Peter Reid, Trevor Steven and the rest of the 1984/85 squad will be recognised in the newly refurbished ’85 Lounge.

The Blues 100 Lounge, as it was previously known, will undergo a significant refurbishment over the summer as it is transformed into a celebration of that unforgettable season.

The ’85 Lounge will bring to life the atmosphere, tension and triumph of the incredible year when the Blues became the League Champions for the eighth time in the Club's proud history and achieved success in the European Cup-Winners’ Cup. Everton legend Reid said: “The new ’85 Lounge is an honour for every one of that squad and there were some really good players in there. It was a good side and one that had camaraderie and played really great football. I’ll have to get along and have a drink soon!”

Blues fans will be able to relive the very proudest achievements of the Club to make their matchday experience all the more special and to celebrate, Everton are giving supporters the opportunity to be a part of the new-look lounge.
Undoubtedly thousands of Evertonians captured the season in their own photographs and now one lucky winner will have their fondest memory included in an exclusive wall montage in the ’85 Lounge. Maybe you have a perfect snap from one of the season’s finest occasions – the day the Goodison faithful celebrated becoming League Champions with a 2-0 win over QPR, Goodison’s Greatest Night against Bayern Munich, Sharpy’s goal at Anfield or that night in Rotterdam.

Or perhaps you have a special snap from other memorable moments during the campaign, such as the classic 5-0 victory over Manchester United or Neville Southall’s headline-grabbing save against Tottenham Hotspur when he denied the Blues’ main title rivals a late equaliser and effectively sealed the league title at the beginning of April.

Whenever it’s from during that unforgettable season, the Club want to see your photos. The owner of the winning photograph will also win hospitality for two in the ’85 Lounge at one of the Blues’ fixtures this season. . Alternatively send you photo in the post, with a stamped addressed envelope so it can be returned, to: ’85 Lounge competition, Media & Communications, Everton Football Club, Goodison Park, Liverpool, L4 4EL.
