Everton v Newcastle

Tickets are now on sale.

Apostolos Vellios is hoping to use Everton’s pre-season programme to impress manager David Moyes.

The Greece Under-21 star - last term's Young Player of the Season - looked in good shape in the Blues’ opening friendly at Morecambe on Saturday, starting the game up front and scoring with a calm finish.

Next up for the squad is a mini-tour to Scotland which starts with a game at Dundee United on Thursday night (7.45).

And Vellios told evertontv: “It was nice to score (against Morecambe), but the main thing is that we won. We are Everton and we must win these games.

“That game is out of the way now and we have another one on Thursday night.

“Of course the players my age are trying to impress the manager,” he added. “The older players are maybe just focused on getting ready for the new season. For me I can’t wait for every game as it is an opportunity to try and do well.

“Every training session it is important for me to be good – not only for the manager and the coaches but also for me and my confidence. Every day I try and focus on my training. I know it is up to me.”

After the trip to Scotland, the Blues play two matches in Indonesia before a game at Blackpool, Tony Hibbert’s testimonial against AEK Athens and a trip to Malaga complete their preparations.

That should mean plenty of chances to impress for Vellios, who is feeling comfortable with what is expected of him in what is now his second pre-season with the club.

He said: “Last season was a great experience for me but now this is a new season.

“I have had an extra year before and I know how to start – this is my second pre-season at Everton and that can help me.

“I feel better all the time, psychologically stronger and also more comfortable with my teammates.”

Evertonians will be able to tune in for both games in Scotland, as well as four other pre-season fixtures thanks to evertontv LIVE.
The matches against Dundee United, Motherwell, Malaysia, Galatasaray or Indonesia, Blackpool and Malaga will all be available to watch LIVE and EXCLUSIVE here on the official Club website.
