Firefighter Paul Rankin had a shock visitor to his work on Thursday when Phil Neville became the latest player to greet an unsuspecting Evertonian Out of the Blue.

Paul, 44, from Aintree, who is usually based in Old Swan, was at Speke Community Fire Station for a meeting about sponsorship for the fire service football team.

Instead, it was Neville waiting for him outside the station, armed with a free 2012/13 Season Ticket and a signed 2011/12 home shirt.

"There was a famous ginger fella who said this is the People's Club and you can't get a better example of that than this," said a delighted Paul. "I wasn't expecting to see Phil today, it's come completely out of the blue.

"I've had a Season Ticket for as long as I can remember and now I can carry on next season as well. And I've got a signed shirt to boot!"

Phil hands over the ticket

Thursday's Out of the Blue surprise was the fifth since the initiative, part of the Stand Together Season Ticket campaign, began, with one final ticket set to be dished out somewhere on Merseyside next week.

"It's great. We do a lot in the community and I know a lot of the lads have been out and done this already," said Neville. "It is the People's Club and the closer we can stay together the better the football club will be.

"I was dead nervous beforehand because you never know what to expect, but it was great we were able to surprise Paul. Firefighters do a lot of sterling work, they're inspirational people. And to see a lot Evertonians working for this station is great."

The 2012/13 Early Bird Season ticket window is set to close on Friday - meaning time is running out for supporters to take advantage of discounts up to 25 per cent.

Each season, the Early Bird window rewards those fans who are quickest to renew or buy for the following campaign by giving them their Season Ticket at a reduced price.

Existing or past Season Ticket holders wishing to renew for the 2012/13 campaign will receive a 25 per cent discount if they purchase before Friday's 6pm deadline, while those wishing to become a Season Ticket holder for the first time will receive a 20 per cent reduction based on match-by-match ticket prices.
