Stubbs Looking For Response

by Adam Clark @efc_adamclark

Alan Stubbs says he will be looking for a response from his players when they travel to Wigan on Thursday.

The second string boss was left disappointed by his side's performance during Monday's 1-1 draw against Wolves - despite the result extending their unbeaten run to eight games.

"I'll be looking for a bit more," Stubbs told evertonfc.com. "It's important now that we finish the season off well. I've set them a challenge to do that and we will take every game as it comes.

"This is a chance for us to improve on the result and the performance from the other day because I wasn't too happy with either of them considering the way they have been playing recently.

"We seem to be having a good game, an indifferent game and then a good game again, and I'd just like to see a little more consistency.

"The thing with reserve-team football is that the team can change from one game to the next and that probably doesn't help with the consistency in truth - it can be a little bit of a juggling act at times. But the teams that we put out are capable of getting results in every game that we play in."

Monday's line-up was a youthful one with Apostolos Vellios, Jose Baxter, Shane Duffy and Conor McAleny providing only limited first-team experience.

The Blues are likely to take on a similar look in Lancashire against a side who inflicted their last reverse all the way back in November.

A strong Wigan outfit featured first-teamers Connor Sammon, Jordi Gomez, Adrian Lopez and Hendry Thomas and Stubbs recalls his side were unfortunate in defeat.

"They were strong that day," he said. "I don't want to keep sounding the same but we didn't deserve to get beat that day. We didn't deserve to win it - but we certainly didn't deserve the defeat.

"I don't know what to expect today but my priortiy is my team and how we do. And if they perform the way they can do, I'll be happy."

Kick off at Wigan is at 2pm. Look out on evertonfc.com later to find out how the second string fare.
