David Moyes refused to be drawn on names – but insists he is still hopeful of adding to his squad before Tuesday night’s transfer deadline.

The Blues boss was speaking at his press conference ahead of the clash with Manchester City – a match which kicks off some four hours before the January window closes.

Moyes has made no secret of his desire to add to his squad this month, with a striker and a central defender his stated priorities.

And with the clock ticking on any potential deals, he is still optimistic that business will be done – even if he is remaining tight-lipped for now.

“I don’t like talking about players at other clubs,” he said. “I would not do that. I did not like it when I was a player, when I kept seeing that other centre-halves were coming to take my position, so I won’t do it.

“If there was any news then I would give you it but you will have to wait until midnight tomorrow night and see what happens.”

When asked if he was confident of adding to his squad, he added: “I said a month ago that I wanted to bring two or three players in during the window so the answer to that is ‘yes’.”

And Moyes added that he didn’t feel the scheduling of a Premier League match on deadline day would have any bearing on his pursuit of players.

“This is a great football club with great staff,” he said. “And if anything happens then they will be in place to do it.”

One player who won't be the subject of any further transfer talk is Landon Donovan, however, with Moyes reitterating that the prospect of him joining on a permanent deal is 'out of the question'.

"He's going back to Galaxy," added Moyes. "We'll always be thankful for the times we've had with him, so we'll continue to enjoy the next month or so."
