Landon Donovan reflected on the first week of his second spell at Everton and admitted: “It’s great to be back.”
The American has started both games since touching down on Merseyside – the 2-1 Premier League defeat to Bolton and the FA Cup win over Tamworth.
And while the team hasn’t been in sparkling form, he says it is a nice feeling to be wearing an Everton jersey again and that he can’t wait to do so again at Spurs on Wednesday night.
“It is great to be back,” the American international told evertontv. “I have enjoyed the two games and it is great to be playing for Everton again.
“I feel fine cardio-wise. My legs are a little heavy after the two games but we have got a few days to recover now and then a big game on Wednesday which I am excited about.
“I am pretty happy (with my form). I think the team struggled a bit against Bolton in the week. We were a little better against Tamworth but will need a big effort against Tottenham.
“They are playing really well at the moment and deserve to be right up near the top of the league. It is probably as difficult a game that I will play while over here, but it will be nice to go back to White Hart Lane and hopefully we can come away with a good result.”
Saturday’s game against Tamworth will have helped Donovan replenish his level of match-sharpness – particularly as the Lambs really made Everton work for their victory.
The on-loan winger admits he was impressed by the Conference side, especially the performance of Kyle Patterson, a former LA Galaxy teammate who once assisted a crucial goal for him in an MLS match.
“Tamworth played well,” he added. “But we did not expect them to come here and lie down. Obviously they are a few divisions below us but they made it hard. They maybe died a little bit around the 70-minute mark but you’d probably expect that with their fitness not quite being as good as a Premier League team. But they deserve a lot of credit.
Of Patterson, he added: “Earlier in the week I got a Facebook message from him and it was probably the last thing I expected to see. But it was good to see him, good to catch up and good to see him doing well. I thought he played well in the game.”
