Kevin Sheedy insisted Everton's youth team were well worth their win over Crystal Palace.

The Toffees' Under-18s fought back from a goal down to beat the Eagles 2-1 with an extra-time winner from Anton Forrester.

Sheedy was pleased with the way his side went about their task, even after falling behind to the London outfit.

"Overall we definitely deserved to win," Sheedy told evertontv. "We knew it was going to be a tough test and I am not surprised it went to extra time. They are a good side.

"We played really well. We started off like a house on fire in the first 10 or 15 minutes. We did all the things we'd practiced on the training ground; we got the ball wide, but we didn't get enough crosses in to the box to capitalise."

Everton's equalising goal was scored by Ross Barkley, who gave a strong performance in the centre of midfield.

Sheedy wouldn't single out any player for specific praise though.

"Ross is a big powerful player in the middle of midfield and he did well for us tonight, getting the goal as well," he said.

"But I wouldn't single anybody out because it was a whole team effort."
