Te Jones Passes Away

by Matthew Gamble @efc_mattgamble

It is with great sadness that Everton has learned of the passing away of Tommy 'TE' Jones.

He passed away at the age of 80 after a long battle with illness.

He enjoyed an 11-year career at Goodison in the 1950s and early 1960s.

T.E. forged a career as a solid and dependable defender and was appointed club captain in 1957, seven years after his debut.

Originally employed as a left back, but then moving to the centre of defence, he made a total of 411 appearances for the Toffees.

Tommy was a member of the side that were relegated in 1951, but came up again three years later. A shattered kneecap forced him to retire from football in 1961, at the age of 31.

He remained a regular visitor to Goodison and was also part of the Everton Former Players Foundation.

The thoughts of everyone at Everton are with Tommy's friends and family.
