Wilson: Tough Going

by Mark Rowan

Lawrence Wilson admitted that the going is tough over here in Austria but added that it's essential if the youngsters play as many games as they did last season.

Wilson, who signed a new contract at the club during the summer recess, was a regular in Andy Holden's reserve side last season, as well as turning out for Neil Dewsnip's Academy team.

"Because the first team had such a small squad we were playing for the Reserves and Under-18s at the same time so it was quite tough at times but it's all good experience," he told evertonfc.com.

Just like the first team squad, the youngsters have been put through their paces with and without the footballs.

Wilson is enjoying the hard work.

"It's been tough today because we've done a lot of fitness work," he said.

"It can take a while to get your touch back but the training sessions are tough. We worked a lot on our sharpness today, passing and moving in small areas. Some of the boys were already a bit stiff from yesterday's running."

The young defender's aim for the forthcoming campaign is a simple one. He got a taste of regular reserve team football last season and he wants more of the same this time around.

"That's right," he confirmed. "I'll just keep working hard and try to show the manager what I can do."
