Gerrard Happy At Walsall

Former Everton defender Anthony Gerrard has set his sights on making a promotion push with his new club Walsall in season 2005/06.

The youngster was released by Blues Boss David Moyes at the beginning of the week and Saddlers manager Paul Merson wasted no time in securing his signature.

Gerrard had spent the previous few months on loan at the Bescot Stadium, making eight appearances which coincide with a reverse in fortunes for the League One side.

Gerrard said: "I am pleased to have signed the deal and can't wait for the new season to come around. I have a good rapport with everyone at the club and the fans in particular really helped me to settle in.

"Walsall made me a good offer and once I knew I would be leaving Everton, this is where I wanted to come. It is a really friendly club and the people here have helped me to settle in extremely quickly.

"Working with Paul Merson is obviously a key factor as well. He is a good manager who I get on with very well and I have learned a lot from him already."

He added: "Hopefully we can push on and make a go of it next season. We ended the campaign very strongly and it has given us a good platform to build upon."
