Lee Carsley has been withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland
squad for the friendly against Australia on Wednesday evening.
The combative midfielder has been plagued with a knee ligament
injury he sustained the 4-1 win over SC Schwan Schwanenstadt back
Although the 29-year-old featured in the friendlies against
Crewe and TNS, he was withdrawn from the Reserves' squad that
faced Bolton last week.
Carsley was not even considered for the trip to Arsenal and
faces a further spell on the sidelines.
"Lee's got quite a nasty knee ligament injury," -

"He's reported a slight improvement today. I would

Meanwhile Rathbone is pleased with the progress that Scot
Gemmill and Kevin Campbell are making following their recent

"Kevin Campbell is doing ever so well, considering it's
only eight days post the injury.
"Scot Gemmill sustained quite a nasty thigh strain eleven
days ago. He's doing ok as well.
"These guys are cycling and swimming - they're working
hard and on the way back, but they face several more weeks on the
sidelines at least."
