Carsley Out Of Eire Squad

Lee Carsley has been withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad for the friendly against Australia on Wednesday evening.

The combative midfielder has been plagued with a knee ligament injury he sustained the 4-1 win over SC Schwan Schwanenstadt back in mid-July.

Although the 29-year-old featured in the friendlies against Crewe and TNS, he was withdrawn from the Reserves' squad that faced Bolton last week.

Carsley was not even considered for the trip to Arsenal and faces a further spell on the sidelines.

"Lee's got quite a nasty knee ligament injury," - Head Physio Mick Rathbone told evertonfc.com.

"He's reported a slight improvement today. I would think and hope he would be back in the next two to three weeks."

Meanwhile Rathbone is pleased with the progress that Scot Gemmill and Kevin Campbell are making following their recent setbacks.

"Things on the injury front are OK," he continued.

"Kevin Campbell is doing ever so well, considering it's only eight days post the injury.

"Scot Gemmill sustained quite a nasty thigh strain eleven days ago. He's doing ok as well.

"These guys are cycling and swimming - they're working hard and on the way back, but they face several more weeks on the sidelines at least."
