Lee Carsley has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad to
face Australia at Lansdowne Road on Tuesday 19 August, just four
days before Everton's Premiership clash with Fulham.
Carsley is set to link up with his international team-mates
following the opening day clash with Arsenal and return to
Merseyside shortly before the showdown with the Cottagers.
Republic boss Brian Kerr is aware the friendly might have upset
a few of his fellow managers but insists the game is vital to his
team's Euro 2004 qualification campaign.
He said: "I think it is important to get the players back
together and get them back in the international frame of mind ahead
of the huge challenges we face in September and October."
