Manchester City boss Kevin Keegan has for the first time confirmed an interest in signing Steve McManaman.

McManaman looks certain to leave current club Real Madrid before the start of La Liga after falling down the pecking order at the Bernabeu.

Keegan is a long term admirer of McManaman, but knows he could face competition from Everton boss David Moyes, who has already confirmed that he could be prepared in bringing the ex-Liverpool winger back to Merseyside.

Keegan said: "He's quality, he is proven and he knows the Premiership and he has already been with a great club," said Keegan on the Real ace.

"We have talked about him, but he's just one of a number of players we have looked at.

"If you ask David Moyes he'd probably say the same thing because he is a good player, and one or two other clubs might want him to."
