Colin Meets The Press

by Mark Rowan

The build up to Colin Harvey's Testimonial match at Goodison Park on Sunday began to gather momentum this afternoon when he met the press.

Everton meet Bologna at the weekend with the proceeds from the fixture going to the BlueBlood Former Players Foundation, and they've nominated Colin as their own beneficiary.

The normally reticent ex-Blues player, coach and manager was back at Goodison today to tell, and re-tell, his own remarkable Everton story.

Representatives of the national written press, local and national radio and television all gathered in the Dixie Dean Lounge to lap up the words of wisdom from one of the club's greatest ever servants.

Amongst many other topics, Colin waxed lyrical about his memorable debut in the San Siro Stadium, Milan, in 1963, he compared the title-winning sides of 1970 and 1985 and he gave his own expert opinion on the emergence of Wayne Rooney.

"I'm not one for speaking publicly, which I think everybody knows," smiled Colin.

"But having said that, it's always nice to reminisce and it's also nice that so many people still want to hear from ex-players like myself.

"I'm looking forward to Sunday, it will a proud day for myself and the family and I just hope that the two teams give the fans a good game to enjoy."
