Blues Depleted

by Mark Rowan @Everton

David Moyes has been forced to take a skeleton squad across to the Netherlands for this evening's game with Eredivisie side Roda JC, kick-off 7.30pm (CET).

Injuries and red tape have prevented the Blues Boss from taking his full compliment of players for the penultimate friendly of the pre-season campaign.

Joseph Yobo and Li Tie have remained on Merseyside due to problems securing visas for the trip, though the Nigerian probably wouldn't have travelled due to a knee injury.

That is the exact reason why Lee Carsley has missed a huge chunk of the build-up and he stays back at Bellefield with Mark Pembridge, who has been carrying a slight knock.

Duncan Ferguson and Niclas Alexandersson, both involved in last night's Liverpool Senior Cup win over Southport have been omitted, though Nick Chadwick and Peter Clarke who also played do travel.

Ferguson is out due to his impending three-match suspension and Moyes would now rather work closely with the players he does have available as he starts to finalise his team for the Arsenal game on Saturday week.

Wayne Rooney and Richard Wright miss out due to respective ankle and shoulder injuries, though the England duo are making excellent progress and shouldn't be sidelined for too much longer.

Everton from: Gerrard, Simonsen, Weir, Stubbs, Unsworth, Pistone, Hibbert, Clarke, Gravesen, Gemmill, Linderoth, Watson, Naysmith, Osman, Campbell, Radzinski, Chadwick.
