David Moyes will rest a number of his players as a precaution
for this evening's latest pre-season test against Dundee
The manager is loathe to take any risks at this stage of the
preparations for the new campaign and even the slightest niggle
will mean a place on the sidelines.
David Unsworth and Steve Watson have already been ruled out of
the game at Tannadice and young defender Peter Clarke could be
added to the list.
Unsy is suffering from severe blisters and is in some
discomfort, while Watson has been unable to train with the rest of
the squad due to a slight thigh strain.
Neither problem is deemed as serious and both players should be
fit to play at Deepdale when Moyes makes his return to Preston at
Clarke is pencilled in for this evening's tough test against
Ian McCall's side, who have just returned from the same
Austrian training camp the Blues were at earlier this month.
But the 21-year-old defender has been complaining of a slight
back strain and if the problem deteriorates any further then he
will be left out.
Duncan Ferguson is expected to begin the game with The Terrors
on the bench, as the Goodison Chief looks to eased the Big Scot in
Ferguson failed to start a single game last season and Moyes has
admitted that his forthcoming suspension has forced him to alter
his pre-season plans.
"Duncan can't start the first three games of the season
and that has been in my thoughts all the time while I am planning
pre-season," said Moyes.
"I have to act accordingly, and while Duncan will figure at
some stage tonight, he is not likely to start."
Richard Wright will once again not be considered as he continues
with his comeback from a shoulder injury, whilst Wayne Rooney, Mark
Pembridge and Lee Carsley are all out.
