Old Pals Act

Dundee United boss Ian McCall is looking forward to renewing acquaintances with his friend and former team mate David Moyes, when Everton visit Tannadice tonight.

McCall and Moyes have been close friends since they played together at Dunfermline in the early 1990s.

Back then McCall was a regular visitor at the Goodison chief's home because he couldn't get enough of Mrs Moyes' cooking!

Although they went their separate ways when Moyes moved down to Preston, the 'Pars pair still keep in touch as two young managers.

"It's fair to say we got on well," said McCall.

"Davie's wife used to cook for me, although I better add he was always there as well!

"We still talk football all the time. Now and then I'll ask him about a player because he has an encyclopaedic memory of players at all levels down there."

McCall is delighted that Everton will be playing his SPL side before the new season begins, as he believes it will provide a good indication of how his side will fare in the 2003-4 campaign.

"There are only a few big English teams coming to Scotland this summer so to get Everton at Tannadice is great. Hopefully it will be entertaining for the fans.

"If Everton were up here they'd finish no lower than third so this game will give us a good idea of where we are at less than two weeks away from the start of the season."
