Gold Wants Savage To Stay

by Mark Rowan

Birmingham chairman David Gold is determined that Robbie Savage will be at St Andrew's next season.

The Welsh international continues to be linked with a move to Everton, despite David Moyes telling that there was 'no truth' in the reports.

Gold financed the deal that saw Savage make a £2.5 million switch from Leicester last summer and he has been impressed with his player's commitment and contribution.

But Gold does admits that if Birmingham were to receive a high enough offer, he could be prepared to let Savage move away.

Gold said: "We don't want Robbie Savage to leave Birmingham. He's a big favourite with the fans and I count myself as one of them.

"He is such a bubbly character on and off the pitch and the type of footballer the punters would want to be if they had the chance to play for their favourite team.

"I want to see commitment from my midfielders and Robbie has always given that from day one at Birmingham and throughout his career.

"I don't welcome any bid - but I accept things like this go on in football. I am not going to stand here and say there's no way we will ever sell Robbie because the fact is every player has his price - like Damien Duff.

"Blackburn didn't want to sell him but you can get pushed to a point where you feel you have no choice."
