Hopkins Spot On

A Paul Hopkins penalty gave Everton Under-17s a 1-0 win over Australian outfit Parramatta Eagles at Netherton on Saturday.

Everton were full value for their win in a competitive and entertaining encounter against one of Manchester United's feeder clubs.

'The Eagles' boast Australia's best young talent and therefore provided a tough test for Gary Ablett's youngsters.

In fact, the Blues' starting line-up were a year younger than their counterparts from 'Down Under,' but they still came out on top.

Gavin Lynch was felled in the area with ten minutes to go - and Hopkins made no mistake with the spot-kick.

"The performance was incredibly pleasing," said Academy Assistant Director Neil Dewsnip.

"All the players contributed to the win, which was a very good test in terms of our pre-season preparation."
