Gary Ablett's Under-15 side finished fifth in the Junior Section of the Northern Ireland Milk Cup, after beating Preston North End and Mexican side Atlas in the play-offs.

After being knocked out at the quarter-final stage by Dundalk Schoolboys, Everton faced PNE in the first stages of the play-offs on Thursday evening.

Castlerock was the venue for the North-West derby, which finished 2-2 after 60 minutes.

Extra-time failed to separate the sides and the clash went to a penalty shoot-out.

The scores were tied at 3-3 after five penalties each, but John Paul Kissock held his nerve to send the Blues through to the 5th/6th place play-off final.

Everton's opponents were Atlas, who had beaten Shamrock Rovers in their corresponding fixture.

In arguably the Toffees most entertaining game of the tournament, Ablett's youngsters ran out 2-0 winners, thanks to a brace from Kissock.

The win ensured fifth place finish out of 24 teams for the Blues, who won four, drew one and lost one of their games in Northern Ireland.

Final standings: 1. Racing Club (Argentina); 2. Hearts; 3. Livingston; 4. Dundalk Schoolboys; 5. EVERTON; 6. Atlas (Mexico); 7. Preston North End; 8. Shamrock Rovers.
