Gavin McCann is on the verge of leaving Sunderland after they
Wearsiders agreed to sell him to Aston Villa.
The Stadium of Light outfit are desperate to offload some of
their high wage earners following their relegation to Division One
and McCann looks like being the first casualty.
A fee of £2.25 million has been agreed and the 25-year-old
has now been given permission to discuss personal terms with Villa
boss David O'Leary.
McCann had been the subject of an enquiry from David Moyes and a
return to Goodison Park looked a distinct possibility, but the
Blues were reluctant to meet Sunderland's asking price for a
player they sold for only £500,000 in 1998.
If the deal between Sunderland and Aston Villa does go through
Everton won't loose out altogether as they will be owed 25 per
cent of the transfer fee as part of the deal that saw McCann make
the move to Wearside.
