Everton New Boy Sidibe Cannot Wait For Goodison Park Rush

Djibril Sidibe says joining Everton is a “fabulous moment” for him – and the French World Cup winning defender cannot wait to “feel the rush” from the Club’s supporters.

Right-back Sidibe completed a season-long loan move from Monaco on Wednesday – with Everton having an option to sign the 27-year-old at the end of the campaign.

Sidibe spent three seasons with Monaco and was a Ligue 1 winner in his first campaign with the club.

Monaco were also Champions League semi-finalists the same 2016/17 season.

The principality team's home stadium, however, holds just under 19,000.

Sidibe, then, is relishing the prospect of performing at a packed Goodison Park – and receiving the backing of thousands of Evertonians on the road.

“It is a big thing for any player to feel that rush from the fans,” Sidibe told evertontv.

“It is something every player would look forward to and I am no exception.

“I did some research before I came.

“I contacted some players in England to ask about life in Liverpool and England – and what it is like with these fans.

“I was told they are very loyal and very demanding fans,

“For me that is another source of inspiration.

“I hope I will be able to fulfil the demands they make of me.”

Sidibe played 29 Ligue 1 matches as Monaco achieved a 39-point swing to claim the championship from Paris Saint-Germain in 2016/17.

He was in the Monaco side which beat Tottenham Hotspur home and away in the Champions League in 2016/17, before overcoming Manchester City in the first knockout stage.

The player was promoted twice with first club Troyes and in four years with Lille was regularly competing at the top end of the league.

Sidibe has 18 caps for France, making his senior international debut following his move from Lille to Monaco and after being placed on standby for that summer’s European Championship.

And the player, who can also operate further upfield and on the left of defence, insists he is hungry for more success.

“That is what I have come here for,” said Sidibe, who provided 21 assists and scored six goals in 114 Monaco appearances.

“There are plenty of other teams out there competing to be top dog and we hope to be among them.

“It is a fabulous moment for me, an opportunity to progress my career here at Everton.

“I hope my motivation comes through and we can get where we want to be.

“It is not just one player who feeds ambition.

“The Club is well known for having this drive and it was important to me that Everton is known as being very ambitious.

“It is a club with big players and big ambitions.”

Sidibe is Everton’s sixth signing of the summer.

Hotshot teenage striker Moise Kean joined from Juventus on Sunday. International midfield trio Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph and Jean-Philippe Gbamin have come from Barcelona, Manchester City and Mainz 05 respectively.

And in the Blues’ first piece of business, goalkeeper Jonas Lossl was recruited following the end of his contract with Huddersfield Town.

“It is a big source of motivation for me to see the Club recruiting players of the calibre they have been,” added Sidibe.

“They are not just there to make up the numbers.

“Everton are recruiting with the intent to win trophies and play on the biggest stage.

“I am 100 per cent motivated and ready to help the Club achieve its goals and to achieve my own individual goals.

“I was very, very happy to hear a historic and big club like Everton was thinking of signing me.

“I did not have to reflect before making my decision to come here.”
