Switzerland v France 21/06/2004 19:45

France beat Switzerland 3-1 in Coimbra to win Group B and set up a Quarter Final match against Greece.

Zinedine Zidane gave the French the lead after 20 minutes when his header, from a Robert Pires corner, bounced through a group of players and into the back of the net.

Johann Vonlanthen broke Wayne Rooney's record of being the youngest goalscorer in the European Championship when he equalised for Switzerland on 26 minutes. Vonlanthen, aged 18 years and 141 days, rifled the ball past Fabien Barthez after a mistake by Mikael Silvestre gave Switzerland possession.

For the majority of the match it looked as though the French would finish second in the group behind England, but two late strikes from Thierry Henry eventually gave France a comfortable win.

In the 76th minute substitute Louis Saha flicked the ball on for Henry who controlled well in the box and fired past Jorg Stiel.

Eight minutes later the Arsenal striker scored his second and France's third. Full of confidence after grabbing his first goal of the tournament, Henry cut in from the left and slotted home from just inside the box.
