Everton Ladies 3-1 Doncaster Rovers Belles
Everton Ladies manager Andy Spence spoke of his delight at his team's performance after they recorded a 3-1 win over Doncaster Rovers Belles in the Continental Cup on Sunday.
Goals from Simone Magill, Fern Whelan and Brooke Chaplen helped the Blues get back to winning ways after three straight defeats and Spence's side now sit third in Group Two of the competition.
"We came into the game looking for certain objectives in terms of what we were looking for from a performance and I think we got that today, which was pleasing," the Toffees boss said.
"I thought we had better control of the ball and our defending was better. If you suddenly put them two parts of the game together you are on the way to getting a good performance.
"I was pleased with some individual performances within that and the good thing is the girls have taken on the messages that we've been talking about and really implemented it. I'm really pleased."
Spence feels results haven't merited the team's performances in recent weeks but is now hoping Sunday's win can prove a catalyst as they head into the second half of the season.
"We might be frustrated results haven't gone for us at times but I can only be complimentary of the team and the effort they've put in," he added. "The players are always wanting to work hard for each other and get themselves back into games and it's another good response today.
"To get that third goal made it comfortable for us and I think there would be no arguments. We were the better team and certainly deserved the three points."
Next up for Everton Ladies is a trip to Sunderland, again in the Continental Cup, on 13 July.
