Everton U18s v Tranmere Rovers U18s

Everton Under-18s began the New Year in fine fashion by recording a 3-1 friendly victory against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday morning.

With a fourth-round FA Youth Cup tie against Birmingham City on the horizon, Kevin Sheedy’s young Blues dusted off the Christmas cobwebs with a comfortable win over their Merseyside neighbours.

Callum Dyson netted an early opener for Everton after five minutes before the lead was doubled on the half-hour mark by a clinical Courtney Duffus finish.

Tranmere then halved the deficit but the win was wrapped up before the interval when Duffus netted again, this time with a far post header.

After the final whistle, Coach Sheedy declared himself satisfied with the workout.

He told evertonfc.com: “We have been working on our crossing and finishing so it was pleasing to score our goals in that fashion.

“It’s a good way to start 2014 and we now have another friendly against Bradford which will be more good preparation before our Youth Cup game.”
