Under-18s 4-2 Norwich

Neil Dewsnip admitted to being delighted with Everton Under-18s after seeing the young Blues ease to victory against Norwich.

A brace from Chris Long and further strikes from Jonjoe Kenny and George Green saw Dewsnip's charges wrap up their second successive home win.

"If there was a Match of the Day for youth football we'd be on first every week at the moment," said Dewsnip afterwards. "The strength of the team at the moment is going forward. We're exciting, creating lots of chances and scoring goals which is lovely and what you want from your football really."

Everton took the lead early on when Long capitalised on a good build-up involving Green and Gethin Jones to open the scoring.

Green then supplied Long again on the half-hour mark and the striker remained calm to double his tally.

A penalty saw Norwich pull one back before the break but a positive start to the second half was rewarded when Kenny fired in to restore Everton's two-goal lead on 70 minutes.

Green was then brought down for a seemingly blatant penalty but the referee waved play on, allowing Norwich to counter and reduce the arrears once more.

However, the deserved victory was finally wrapped up when Green chipped two on the line with just seconds remaining and Dewsnip was thrilled with the outcome.

"We're very pleased with the performance and very pleased with the result," he added. "If there was anything, I'd say we need to defend more sensibly, but we'll work on that.

"We've got a break now for two weeks and we don't really want it because we're playing so well. But it will give people a chance to charge their batteries and we'll go again."

Everton Under-18s' next game is at home against Arsenal on Saturday 20 October.
