Manchester United U18s v Everton U18s
Everton Under-18s recorded another impressive away victory by beating Manchester United 3-0 on Wednesday.
The young Blues stunned the Red Devils at Carrington with goals from Ryan Ledson, George Waring and Callum Dyson.
Midfielder Ledson opened the scoring midway through the first half when he headed a swinging free-kick goalwards. United defender Ben Pearson cleared from under the bar but officials deemed the ball to have crossed the line.
And the elements had a slight hand in the second as Waring arrived at the back-post to head home a wind-assisted Jasper Johns cross on 50 minutes.
The Blues' defence was resolute and defiant, holding up as the hosts pushed for a goal of their own.
But it was only Everton players on the scoresheet today, with Dyson volleying in another Johns' cross in injury time.
With three goals scored and a clean sheet to boot, boss Kevin Sheedy was delighted with a perfect outcome.
He told evertonfc.com: "I think the scoreline was a fair reflection of the game. They had good possession but didn't really hurt us.
"Our goalkeeper only had one save of note to make. It was a true team performance.
"We limited them to very few opportunities, won the headers and put in the tackles.
"George Waring made a few good defensive headers to cut out dangerous balls and people were chasing all over the place to get the ball back.
"Duncan [Ferguson] and myself were really pleased with the performance. Sometimes you can't play as well as you'd like, but today was a different kind of performance.
"They dug in so full credit to them. We were absolutely delighted with them afterwards."
The result keeps Sheedy's side firmly in the mix for a top-three finish in the Elite Group - the reward for which is a spot in the play-off round of the overall competition.
